How to allocate stock (item) to a Sales order?

Hi,

 

Going through a prototype to integrate into our operational platform. What is the correct approach to allocated stock to a Sales order (SODOCUMENT/SODOCUMENTENTRY)? We see reserved, quantityallocated, quantityreserved, quantity remaining etc

Ideally when we allocate or reserve a stock item, we want to reference the Sales order into the stock item.

Can someone advise.
