Sage 300 CRE Database .NET Connection

I did not see a specific area to post this question so I'm hoping it'll get some attention here. 

I am a complete Sage newbie, but a 30-year Microsoft stack developer. I have been searching for an answer to how to connect to an installed Sage database via .NET/C#. It appears that I can do so by using the Timberline Data driver and creating a System DSN, does that sound correct? Are there other methods? I've seen mentions of Sage dll's that can be imported into Visual Studio, but I can't find an SDK or library download anywhere. 

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!
